Budget Tour of Taipei

by Cristy

We are 5 females travelling to Taipei on October 20 to 25, 2011 on a budget. We would like to visit some temples, museums and of course have the ultimate shopping and eating experience that i heard so much about taipei. Can you please advise us what hostel to get and in what part of taipei do we need to stay to get to experience the city? Is the Taipei hostel in Lin sen N road convenient, in terms of getting to and from places of interest.

Thanks a lot and more power

Hi Cristy,

I have not been in that hostel but I agree the location is absolutely convenient for going to the different attractions. You will be in downtown Taipei and, from the nearby Shandao Temple MRT, it is just a short ride to Taipei City Hall MRT station where you can walk (10 minutes) to Taipei 101 or catch a free shuttle to the same - this is the area with the majority of the upscale shopping malls.

Differently from other Taiwanese cities, it is a pleasure to walk in Taipei and you can definitively do this from Taipei Hostel location, if you like.

So from the Hostel you can easily walk to Taiwan National History Museum, just behind the Railway Station or to Chang Kai Shek Memorial Hall.

If you like you can walk along Ren Ai or Xinyi Rd (close to Danan Park, where you can find the famous DingTaiFung).

You have to take public transport to go to Shilin Night market, Baoan and Longshan Temple, the National Palace Museum.

In the Tourist Offices you can grab for free the Taipei Tourist Guidebook that is quite exhaustive and reports a lot of useful informations.

A guidebook I like very much is "Culture Taipei" by C. Logan and T. Hsu. By the way that guidebook recommends the Taipei Hostel.
