I am looking for traditional taiwanese dresses, where can I buy them in Taipei, thank you (Marie)

Answer

Marie,

these are the qipao (cheongsam) workshops I have found in Taipei:

Kinghu - their website is only in Chinese, as you can see from the pictures they handmade every kind of traditional dress, including the jacket for men called magua or tangzhuang.

The shop is here:
No. 27, Yanping South Rd, 2nd Floor (close to the Post Office in Boai Street)
Zhongzheng DistrictTaipei City, Taiwan 100
Address and Phone Number in Chinese:
台北市延平南路27號2樓(博愛路郵政總局附近)
電話 : 公司 (02) 2331-4498 工廠 (02) 2707-9177

Jixiang Ruyi is a small shop that has been recommended online, also in English. It seems they mostly have ready made dresses that will adjust for you. Don't miss their Facebook page with a lot of gorgeous qipao.

Below the contact details:

Chinese Address: 台北市中正區寧波東街11之3號1樓
English Address: 1F., No.11-3, Ningbo E. St.,
Zhongzheng Dist., Taipei City 100,
Taiwan.

Tel:  886-2-3343 3538       Ms Ting

With more than 50 years of experience, Master Hsu Rong-YI is one of the legendary tailors that have seen the "golden age" of qipao in Taiwan, from the 50's to the 80's.

In this video you can see him still working in his atelier in Boai Rd, where all the dresses are proudly tailor made.

.

Here are the links to the website and the Facebook page, both only in Chinese.

The address and phone number are these:

Rong-Yi Tangzhuang
Chinese Address: 台北市中正區博愛路122號6樓之2
English Address: No. 122, Boai Rd, Zhongzheng District, Taipei
Phone Number: (02)2361-3336

One of the largest atelier is Londee. Londee was founded in 1965 by Ms. Tsai Mon-Sha, originally a teacher at tayloring school. Londee moved from the traditional qipao to more modernized dresses that mix tradition and western influences.

Londee have many shops around the island, especially in the best department stores (you can find the locations in their website, only in the chinese section since the english section is not finished.

Website: LONDEE .

There are more qipao shops and you can find interesting shops in the department stores, but also in Baoai Rd and in the very traditional Dihua Street.

I hope the map below will be useful:

I actually stumbled on the location where you could find the traditional chinese clothing in Taipei.Could not remember the name of the buildings but try the 02 shopping malls just behind the main ximending shopping areas. One of them sounds like SHINJUKU PLAZA.If you can't find what you need, then proceed to the next building on the same road,or ask anyone in the shops on the ground floor of that building. They should be able to tell you.
Good luck!
