Xiong Jia Pork Knuckle Restaurant - Kenting
Xiong Jia Restaurant in Kenting (Checheng Township)
This restaurant is not exactly in Kenting but close to Chechen, on the National Road N. 26, close to the river.
When we were driving to Kenting my wife recognized this as a famous restaurant, well known around Taiwan for his signature dish: Stewed Pork Knuckle.
The next day we went here for an early dinner. The restaurant is huge and empty. It looks like more an industrial shed.
Probably can accomodate more than 200 people.
The restaurant was almost empty but we were told that they were expecting tour buses to arrive later in the evening.
In Taiwan big restaurants for banquets and tours normally are not associated with good cuisine ... as everywhere else in the world.
Xiong Jia is an exception and local people come here as well to enjoy.
We had a very hearty and satisfying dinner with the following dishes:
- Pork Knuckle
- Hakka Stir Fried Noodles - (BanTiao)
- Hakka Stir Fried
- Sugar Cane Sprouts
- Oyster and Pickled Mustard Greens Soup
As expected the Pork Knuckle, served with a garlic flavored dipping sauce, was really good.
But we were really surprised by the typical Hakka noodles - flat noodles called BanTiao - the best I ever had in Taiwan.
As my wife told me, Sugar Cane Sprouts are a very authentique Taiwanese dish that can be found only in autumn.
We spent about 900 NTD - not exactly cheap - but we had a Taiwan Beer too and the portions were enough for 4 person.
It is a highly recommended Southern Taiwan experience.
